Can't copy large files with Update 10
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:16:28 am »
Everything was running great with Update 9, but I updated to 10 to resolve the rename issue (which I see isn't resolved anyway) and now I can't seem to copy large files into the Pool.  The copy seems to die at around the 3-4GB mark.  I've attached Trace logs.

The issue is with your drive locking up.
Check the drive and controller for fitness.

We can even open the Windows Disk Management nor Event Viewer or check the SMART on the drive once it locks up.

If you feel that update 9 was running better, revert to it. However, I think you have system issues to resolve.

I tried reverting back to u9 but when I launch the Web Interface it's just the FlexRAID logo and no icons.  Do I need to delete some configuration files?

Always, check the logs for clues.

Make sure you rebooted as appropriate: http://wiki.flexraid.com/2011/08/22/uninstalling-flexraid-from-your-pc/

I'm guessing that this issue is being caused by running VMware Workstation with direct drive mappings as I had been running the same setup with FlexRAID running on the bare metal install of Windows for a long time without issue.

Also, it would appear that some of my files are missing from one of my drives.  I'm not blaming FlexRAID at all, but what I'm wondering is if there's a way that I can verify that all of my files are there?  And if they aren't, can I identify which ones are missing?

Set your logs to TRACE and run Quick-Validate.
It will tell you if some file are missing.

Thanks.  Looks like I've got a little over 1300 files missing :(

I'm assuming that I have to go through all of the FlexRAID.log.x files and look for lines with WARN : DELETED to find the deleted files (there's no list of the deleted files)?

I found a VBS and modified it to suite my needs.  I've found the files that are missing and they're all off of one drive.  What's the easiest way to recover the files on that drive?

Here's the vbs file I used for reference.  To use it create a vbs file and then put the log files in a sub-folder.  This will search for files with a log extension create a report.txt file in the same directory as the vbs.
Code: [Select]
Const ForReading = 1
Const ForWriting = 2
Const TriStateUseDefault = -2

strRoot = "c:\LogSearch"
strExt = "log"
strToFind = "WARN : Deleted"
intCompare = vbTextCompare
strReport = "report.txt"

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objReport = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strReport, ForWriting, True)

Set objRoot = objFSO.GetFolder(strRoot)

For Each objFolder in objRoot.Subfolders
    For Each objFile in objFolder.Files
        strFileExt = objFSO.GetExtensionName(objFile.Path)

        If LCase(strFileExt) = LCase(strExt) Then
            Set objStream = objFile.OpenAsTextStream(ForReading, TriStateUseDefault)

            Do While objStream.AtEndOfStream <> True
                strLine = objStream.ReadLine

                If InStr(1, strLine, strToFind, intCompare) Then
                    objReport.WriteLine strLine
                End If
            Loop

            objStream.Close
        End If
    Next
Next

objReport.Close

I'm assuming that I should go to Drive Manage --> select the DRU missing the files --> Restore/Swap Out --> Restore to the drive currently in the pool?  What will happen to the files that are currently on the drive?

I went an bought a new 2TB drive to replace the drive with the missing files.  I removed the old drive from the server and put the new one in.  I replaced the DRU3 with the new drive and when I run the Swap Out on the drive it's failing with the following error message

An exception has occurred!
See logs for full message.
Error message: IOException [€€K€KHANDLE_VALUE error=5 for path=\\?\C:\FlexRAID-Managed-Pool\class1_0\{d696fdc5-01a4-11e2-a7b6-806e6f6e6963}\MoviesHD\Lion King, The (1994) [720] [G]\Lion King, The (1994) [720] [G].mkv]

I've attached Trace logs as well.

Looks like the permissions were fudged on that file, so I fixed that and I was able to recover that drive.

I'm still missing about 20 files from another drive.  If I go to Toolbox --> Restore --> Choose the DRU I want to recover the files from and leave the path empty, will this just recover the missing files and leave the existing files on that drive intact?

Whether you restore to the source drive or an external path, only the missing files will be restored.

Perfect.  Thanks for the reply Brahim.  Everything seems to be working much better with Hyper-V 2012.
