Update Taking over 7 hours with only 60gb of data added
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:59:12 am »
So the initial parity build took a long time which I was expecting.

But I just ran an update last night at 01:30 and it's still running at 07:40 and the progress window is of no use as all it say is "Data Change Analysis Process". There is no throughput information or anything else.

I added about 60gb of files to the array and deleted some small files. The log, even with trace enabled doesn't show anything interesting except for a Java authentication error

I can see from perfmon that it is scanning all my files. But these are files that haven't changed. Why is it taking so long? It's across all disks not just one and all files playback fine and Hard Disk Sentinel reports no SMART issues and there are no other symptoms of disk failure.

This is with the patch to w_class1_0.dl for the renaming issue in this thread.

Running Windows Server 2008.
4x2tb, 1x1.5tb SATA disks
1x 1tb USB 2.0 disk and 1x2tb USB 3.0 disk (parity disk)

Recycle bin is on, volume is not removable and NTFS in advanced settings.

Edit: it's finally moved onto Data Change Analysis Process. It's saying it's at 10 mins in and only 1% complete. This is going to take as long as the original computation. Any ideas why?

Added this line to the log:

[2012-10-02 08:33:35,355] INFO : Total process size = 951908827136

This eventually completed and now updates are much smoother. Think it was a result of moving a load of files around.

I'd like to suggest that FlexRaid rebuilds the parity rather than checks for updates as that would have been much quicker!
