Trouble with Update 11 (should have left well enough alone)  :(

-WHS 2011 running FR U9 since that was released (no issues nightly updates).
- Followed verbatim the upgrade page http://wiki.flexraid.com/2012/03/28/howto-upgrade-your-flexraid-installation-to-a-new-release/
- Open FR web interface, get this error on lower right "500 The call failed on the server; see server log for detail"

So, I uninstalled U11, reinstalled U9, and now when I go to the web interface, I see the icon for the flexraid array, but you click on it, and an absolutely blank window comes up.....

So now I have nothing.... sigh

Did you clear your browser cache after updating?

If not, try that first.

Is FlexRAID now perfect? I must admit that since I dumped any and all thoughts of using FR for pooling it has worked quietly and effectively. Still it seems odd that no one has a question or found a bug or is upset about how it doesn't work with with WHS 2011.

I don't know if it is "perfect" just yet.
There doesn't seem to be any more bug fixes since September 2012 looking at the bug tracker, but a fair number have been posted.

There's a couple of hiccups every now and then in my use case (snapshot+pooling, Server2008), but fairly rare, it has been mostly solid for me.

Hey Brahim how's everything going? What are your plans for FR 2.0?
FlexRAID expert/snapshot RAID/Storage Pool mode
Windows Server 2008 R2, 23 TB pool, Array1: 3TB redundancy, Array 2: 4TB redundancy, 11 drives total

I added a new HDD recently and it won't show up in the gui - its just blank. I've uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled multiple times. It's suppose to be '27'. Any thoughts?

Check that the name does not have some invalid character.

The name for that drive is '27' . I see nothing different about it compared to the rest. Don't see any invalid characters. It's physical disk 11.

Also, when I highlight that blank area with the mouse, the highlight bar moves to the '1V' drive. And when I double-click the blank area it opens the drop down for the '1V' drive. Kind of odd!

You will need to rename the drives.
What I think is happening is that each UI element has an ID which I build off the hash code of its name or path.
I think you might be having a hash collision from the very short name of your drives.

Rename your drives to be at least 5 characters long.
That or just rename the "27" drive since it value might be colliding with a hash of another element.

I don't think I can rename them. They are auto-named by WHS 2003 when I add them to the server storage pool. When I try renaming it, it changes to a folder icon instead of a drive. I think it would mess a lot of stuff up if I renamed it  :-\ Any other ideas?

Edit: I tried to rename it again and the icon changed back to a drive icon. It does now show in the gui :). Hopefully it doesn't mess up anything! Thanks Brahim :)

Brahim,

The download page says as follows:

Version: FlexRAID 2.0 Final Update 11c for Windows
MD5: c7ed4425606dcbd042599a5b904283f7

But I can't find any information about release '11c' ?  (have checked the development updates / news areas, the official releases area here, and the change log on the main site (which incidentally doesn't differentiate between any of the 11a/b/c differences anyway)).

Many Thanks!
Alex

NLS,

I don't know what time the post was updated but absolutely I checked, and then left it about 2 hours and checked again, and still this post referred only to release 'b', I forced an update in case the page was in my cache, and then posted my query above..... which when I reloaded the thread to show my new post, still only referred to release 'b' in the first post.  Now clearly it has been updated to release 'c'.

It looked like the file on the home page had been updated but the release info on here hadn't - I promise I'm not going mad!!!!  Please admit you hadn't updated this thread when I posted, or I am off to book some rest time in a padded room!  :P

Phew, just checked the post edit timestamp, Brahim only updated the post 24 minutes after I posted my query - confirmation I'm not mad - for today anyway!  ;D

Cheers
Alex
