noob build / unraid to flexraid help
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:28:46 pm »
Hi all

I am currently running a 4TB unraid server as a place to keep all my media and a small pc to run xbmc/plex from. I want to combine the two machines so my fileserver is also my media player and it looks like it will be easier to do via flexraid than in unraid. I have a junk computer now so i am going to build a new server that i hope will be a bit future proof.

Goal for the new box: play 1080p (HD content) with no hiccups / store media / serve up media to other boxes / run xbmc or plex/ run other programs in background

New Build
CPU: Intel Core i3-3225 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor
MOBO: ASRock B75M R2.0 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
RAM: Mushkin Silverline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
PSU: Fractal Design Tesla R2 500W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V Power Supply

I plan on getting a few more drives to expand my array to 10TB. Any case/BD drive recommendations? Will my current config play and serve content ok?

Next part is moving my current unraid data drives over to flexraid without loosing data.
1. should i go with an ubuntu system so the ReiserFS partitions (current unraid drives) can be read?
2. will windows with YAReG work to read/write to ReiserFS partitions in windows

am i going to have to use a free drive to copy all my data too before i can use them again in flexraid?

Thanks for the hlep
