Crashplan realtime backup on tRAID storage pool
« on: July 09, 2013, 01:42:40 am »
As per http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php?topic=2362

Realtime changes are not detected on the storage pool, but are detected fine on the transparent disks.

To replicate
1. Install Crashplan trial
2. Add storage pool to backup set
3. Add a new file to the pool

What happens
New file is not detected until Crashplan does its scheduled scan every 24hrs

What should happen
New file should be immediately detected and queued for the next backup

Did you try "sync folder last modified date" option?

@tsb90
It all depends on what Crashplan uses to detect the changes.
If USN journal, then it will not work as USN journals are per disks and only one can be exposed.

OK. I'll contact them and find out.

Sounds like Crashplan does indeed use the USN journal.
Is there no way the storage pool can present a 'virtual' unified USN journal to the OS?

Unfortunately, no.
Not without some major changes to Windows itself.
