Registering an offline disk results in error
« on: July 20, 2013, 12:48:05 pm »

I have a disk which is offline (it used to be set offline when I did register it in order to use it in my RAID configuration. But I did next unregister it and it didn't came back "online" automatically. I think I did refresh the Host manually to be sure that I had a tree 'up-to-date')

I tried to re-register it without bringing it online manually and got this error:

[2013-07-20 18:49:10.139249][2044]'NZFS Broker Service' has been successfully registered...

[2013-07-20 19:16:58.132528][1784]      [ERROR] [pWriteByHandle] ErrorCode=19 Message=handle=000001E0 offset=17408 requested=512 written=-19 errorCode=19

The error message in the "Operation Failure" popup was also "[pWriteByHandle] ErrorCode=19 Message=handle=000001E0 offset=17408 requested=512 written=-19 "

This is not fair, especially as the menu "Register Pass-through Disk" was available ???  A user should be able to unregister a disk (by mistake: e.g. he actually wanted to unregister another one to eject that disk from the server) and re-register it immediately (once it notice his mistake).

Or for the user experience, couldn't the message be "Please select an 'online' disk. This one is offline" ?!

Or as I did suggest in another post: set a disk online when it is unregistered  ;D

I think this is because the disk was manually brought offline.
You likely brought it online and put it back offline.

The way to resolve this is to simply bring the disk online and let tRAID bring it offline.

well, I am quite sure the disk was set offline by tRaid when I did register it.
But I will see if I can reproduce that in all cases...

During a complicated disk restore, I'm facing a similar problem as in this very old thread:
If I set the target disk to restore to offline, I get similar errors as in the initial post.
If I set the target disk to restore to online, Rebuild seems to work (at least it started with reasonable speed and without errors).

The question:
How can bring a disk offline "with tRaid"? At the moment, I'm not really sure whether my OS will interfere with the disk being restored while in online state ...
