RAID over File System is bound by the rules of the file system. ;)

Between your invalid file names, encryption, and whatnots, you have just setup a difficult case.

It is not just files with non-latin characters that are of issue in your setup. You have files with names that are invalid in your file system. How you created those files in the first place is in question.

Worst, you refuse to provide full logs and to follow recommendations.

One last recommendation, restore to a non-encrypted disk outside of the array.
If it fails on a file, try to manually pre-create that file. If you can't, then there is not much that can be done.

I made changes for the next release to just skip over the problem files. I figured that would have been an impossible scenario, but you have made it possible somehow.  :P

wait,wait,wait...

all my files are full accessible and valid under Linux and windows!

maybe i tell all again with all infos i have now.....
fresh restart.  mounting all my drives. all EXT4 filesystem and 1xNTFS. looking on drives, all files OK. looking @ a file with the file name "kopf-fuß.doc", present.
Starting Pool in Flexraid, the file "kopf-fuß.doc" is missing in the pool and all files with üöäßÜÖÄ.
looking in the log file:
Code: [Select]
INFO : Overriding locale to de_DE
Starting restore, it fails on reading this file for restore.
after that i go to terminal, "sudo service FelxRAID stop", and then "sudo su", "service FlexRAID start".

Looking @ Logfile again and no "Overriding locale to de_DE"

Starting Pool, and there is the kopf-fuß.doc" file and is full accessible.
now i testing for some strange letters like a "star" ☆ symbol. i create a file with "star" ☆ symbol in it, looking pool and there it is. Looking for it in the network Samba Share and found it.

Starting restore process again, looking good, he validates all files for restore process, takes 8-9 Hours, then beginning to write files...  @ 27% it breaks @ the file thats to long becorse of the strange letters....
i checked and searched in the restored 27% for üöäßÜÖÄ file names = 0 found, but there must be some of....

i search the strange file it refuses to restore. COMIC1☆4.... <- like original file name.
it is in the log like:"COMIC14....."  or "COMIC1???4....."

he tries to restore it, but the hole file name with the strange symbols is to long >256 Letters!
There does Java exists with "error 36"

i already tried to restore to a normal ext4 and to a normal ntfs drive, same error.
manually pre-creating of a file with more than 256 letters isn't possible. then tried it with the file original name, doesn't worked.

now i go nutz...

1. Please help your cause with complete sentences.

2. Why pre-creating files with more than 256 characters not possible? What is preventing you from doing so?

3. The local has nothing to do with the file encoding.
Read this thread: http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/topic,1337.msg10227.html
Try out the start up script to ensure that the service starts up fine with the proper UTF8 encoding.

2. That's the file's name, which is not to be confused with the file's path. A file's path can be longer. Are you stating that you have file with name longer than 255 characters?
Then how did FlexRAID manage to include such file in the RAID in the first place?

3. No. Read that thread fully.

Testing now the new release, thanks for the msg. :)

2. yes i mean the filename not the path.  i doesnt have files longer than 255, becorse thats not possible. but flexraid tries to restore the file with wrong locale and then the file name goes bigger becorse a ☆ -> ???? = 3 letters longer, if i have a file with a name 253 long and a ☆ in it its now, thanks to this bug, 256 long = Error!

3. i already changes the /etc/init.d/Flexraid with the locale forcing ..export lang=de_DE.UTF-8 ....

now waiting to finish restore try with new release version.... 9-10 hours waiting

Yes i have long file names.
 a long filename demo? ok.

Code: [Select]
my_long_file_with_a_strange_star_☆symbol_that_FlexRAID_doesent_restore_like_it_shut_1234567890_bla_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla.zip
then Flexraid trys to restore:
Code: [Select]
my_long_file_with_a_strange_star_?????symbol_that_FlexRAID_doesent_restore_like_it_shut_1234567890_bla_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla_la_bla_bla.zip

btw: The new Version  you send me with PM, it doesnt work, it aborts with
Code: [Select]
[2013-11-03 20:50:44,859] ERROR: [restore] error: OutOfMemoryError[null]
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

8Gb Ram and already done a restart to free memory. Free memory after restart 6,8GB and 10GB Swap

EDIT: upgradet to 12Gb Ram. same out of memory error... this build has a error

EDIT: this new  version, Flexraid Crashed then stoping the Pool.

Code: [Select]
FlexRAID 2.0u12 final [Snapshot 1.4 stable / Storage Pool 1.0 stable / Real-Time 1.0 experimental]
And dont say install ubuntu new, its a clean fresh install, only for the Services i need to share files in my LAN.

checked again. jup the new (u12) FlexRAID Task eats all memory @ restore.
When does it error out? Before restoring any file or after restoring some.
The process is a 32 bit process and is limited to the amount of RAM it can consume.

Again, it is hard to provide you with much help with log and visibility into what really going on with your setup.
You will help yourself by put the logs in TRACE mode and relating of the important events.
Summary messages give us nothing to trace back to.

Here my logfile. Trace is active. FlexRAID Task (PID) gone, too.
all before restoring a file, after meta data scan.

Here my logfile. Trace is active. FlexRAID Task (PID) gone, too.
all before restoring a file, after meta data scan.
Trace is not active. The logs are at INFO level.

Things to also do:
- Get file count on all your disks
- Scan for hard and symbolic links on your disks
