Proper Defrag process
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:19:23 pm »
As suggested by NLS in another topic, the Storage Pool has better be stopped before doing a defrag of the NZFS devices.

At leas to avoid accident as "Defrag cannot run on the pool drive. Any attempt to open the pool disk for raw data access would fail. You can test this by trying to analyze the pool disk for defragmentation." (See here)

I don't defrag very often my File Server as I don't delete a lot but mainly add files.
But when that I decide to defrag my disk, it would great to have a menu in the Web UI to automatically:
- stop the pool if started,
- defrag the NZFS device if the raid array is online (for disk with defrag > x% -  possibly to be configured...),
- restart the pool or shutdown depending on options.

No need for a graphical interface reporting about the progress like O&O defrag, etc...
although if could be sold as an add-on/optional feature ;)
