WTB: M1015 already flashed
« on: October 29, 2013, 08:28:15 pm »
Hey guys, I am wanting to buy a M1015 that is already flashed with the latest firmware in IT mode.
I am hoping someone has a spare or one sitting unused.

Thanks. :)

I could sell you mine for few bucks more than I bought it plus shipping. :P
Hehehe.

(it's pretty simple to flash btw... I flashed it a few times - you need to be lucky with the motherboard though)

None of my boxes have monitors or keyboard hooked to them.
All I want to do is just open the case and plug in the card and be done. I absolutely lack the time to flash or troubleshoot issues.

Hope the cables are ok.
They ARE directional and sometimes sellers confuse this.

Oh boy!
Directional? Meaning what? And what direction should I care for?

Tried replying via tapatalk but it had a fit :(

I have a forward cable as i was told If you're connecting your hard drives directly, without any form of hot swap bays you'll need a SFF-8087 forward breakout cable with a SFF-8087 connector on the controller side and 4x SATA connectors on the drive size.

If your connecting SAS backplanes to onboard SATA ports, your need the reverse type as this type will NOT work for connecting drives to the M1015.

Brought the same card for my unRaid soon to be FlexRAID box and was advised this.

Thread link below if that's allowed.

Just to elaborate on the uses of cable types I'll copy my post from another thread:

A reverse breakout cable is SATA to SFF8087 and goes from the motherboard to a backplane. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133033
A forward breakout cable is SFF8087 to SATA and goes from a controller SFF8087 port to individual drives or a backplane that has SATA ports. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816116099
An ordinary SAS cable is SFF8087 to SFF8087 and goes from a controller to a backplane. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133034

NLS, which firmware & drivers are you using with your flashed M1015 card? Is the card in a x4 or x8 slot? I ask as I am having problems with my Flexraid since I fitted one...

Ordered http://www.ebay.com/itm/251365300126 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/200969924798.
All set. :)
FYI, I finally caught a break and installed the new card.
Everything was a snap. No driver to install, nothing to flash. The cable was the right cable too.
So, anyone looking for a card and cable to buy, the above are highly recommended - especially if you have a headless box and don't feel like going to the trouble of flash stuff. :)
