With no experience with OMV, I can't add much as far as which config is ideal.

I am still not understanding the OMV limitations of running FlexRAID under the special "flexraid" account vs root.

@Brahim

OMV UI user ("admin") is a sudo user but can't open a local session on OMV server.
If you need a safe local session on OMV, for FlexRAID or other things, you have to create a local user and declare it as sudoers, like on others Linux.
All OMV UI capablities are linked to "root" account or "admin". Each action on system is done by these two users.
So, you have to take care about the rights when you use a new local user like FlexRAID, which can be sometimes complicated.

The real issues are the impossibilty to use, at the same time, OMV UI Share capabilities and non-OMV mounting options for flexraid user.
And, with any user (flexraid or root), with OMV mounting options, the impossibility to use Cruise control Mode.

I hope some Linux Power user, like R27 or B-earl could find the best solution for those issues.

Aren't the permission for admin defined as group permissions? So, that adding "flexraid" to that group would give it the permissions it needs?

If using "admin", I am pretty sure we can mount the drives without using the OMV's GUI if that causes issues.
Maybe mount and format the drives using the GUI, then unmount and re-mount using standard flags from the shell.

So, the strategy should be to stick with the admin user, but finding  a workaround for the mounting issue.

I can't test anything because of f... license issue. Even trail license doesn't work.

Err... in that case you have a bigger issue to communicate to me.
Why isn't the trial working? What error are you getting?

Also, you should be able to activate online.
I know that the current issue is that some users have to activate after reboot (an annoyance). If you have another issue, please do tell.

Ok final results -

fixed temp. license issue with root password trick (use wrong pass, then proper one - stupid), but after reboot reactivation required.

Created Pool and Snapshot Raid under expert mode. 2 DRU + 1PPU.

Mounted Pool on PPU and shared it from OMW (CIFS, NFS). Everything works fine.

Tested Snapshot recovery - created files in shared folder, validated from FR, deleted and restored.

Rebooted, activated (hate this step) and tested Raid. Do not have an issue described by beut. Everything works as expected.

Later today I'll test it again on my lab machine with proper activation.  Will post results here.

Brahim you have to figure out licensing problem. Also I noticed that GUI has cache issue with browsers.

@Brahim:
"admin" OMV UI user is just member of users:100 standard user group, with no sudo rights.
All operations commited in OMV UI are not executed by "admin" user but by "openmediavault" user which is "openmediavault" group member, and also "sudo" group user, like my "flexraid".

I will try cruise control mode after putting  "flexraid" in "openmediavault" group.

@R27:
You cant encounter the same issues: you use root account and expert mode, not cruise control.
And I confirm GUI cache issues with browsers.

Which GUI has cache issues? FlexRAID or OMV?

What issue do you get if you don't clear the cache?

"com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.StatusCodeException: 0" in the right corner of the Flexraid UI screen.

You are really not being clear with what type of issue you are facing.
As already explained, if you have an issue other than needed to re-activate on reboot, please contact me so we can resolve it.

Hey beut, well done on this. Have you solved all the issues?
