Add a From/Reply-To field for email settings
« on: November 23, 2013, 05:55:32 am »
When using outlook and my mail server, I can specify a From or ReplyTo address different from the account's username/sender.
Ex.: From = Valery at MyDomain.be
account = vletroye at MyDomain.be
Reply-To = admin at MyDomain.be
only the account is defined on my mail server. Valery at MyDomain.be is not an existing mailbox (It's a forward)

Within tRAID, in the mail settings, the "sender" has to be the same as the username otherwise the connection to my mail the server is rejected
But I would like to be able to replace at least the From and possibly the Reply-To:
username = vletroye at MyDomain.be
From = tRAID at  MyDomain.be

Would it be possible to add support for those fields ?

For clarity, you are asking for the Reply-To to be allowed to be different form the Sender.
The Sender does not have to be the same as the Account. That's why they are separate fields. ;)

Defaulting to the Sender for the Reply-To was done to simplify the form. Especially in light of the fact that no one will reply to the system.
I mean, who are you replying to and stating what?
Moreover, having a Reply-To that not the sender is an extreme rare case.

I don't need indeed the reply-to as this is for my personal use at home.

It could be useful when the sender is a technical account. In such case I usually send the notifications to a functional mailbox monitored by several colleagues and if one replies to tell he did something to fix the problem, the reply-to is also the functional mailbox.

That being said, I already tried to set another sender but I got an error when doing a "verify". It was something like "connection failed: host:port". It works only if I use the account as server too.

An error would be your mail server doing its own validation/restrictions.

Many mail server providers don't allow the sender to be different from the account unless some other form of extended verification is used such as DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM).
At a minimum, most require the account and reply-to to be of the same domain.

Think of the SPAM implications if that wasn't the case.

It's working with outlook where the "from" is also different from the "username".

Maybe the difference is that outlook fetch new mails before sending...

Or...  I will check asap but there could be an issue with the alias used as sender. I am unfortunately right now shopping with my wife :(

I could not wait longer. I did wol my server with my mobile, and with the alias well defined on my mail server, it works.

I did shutdown next the server with the shutdown feature you have added. I use it always now and it's fully compatible with a WOL.

No problem either to use the web ui within chrome on my mobile. Just not the most comfortable interface.

Damn, my wife has found a nice coat... 700$ 8| and she want me to pay the extra fur: 250$. She still believe in Santa Claus :D
