Good God!

Will the speeds of the individual drives be aggregated like with conventional RAID?

Very interesting... I was wondering what you would have to say in response to the recent Storage Spaces blog entry on Building Windows 8.

Update:

The first pass implementation of NZFS's IO system is now complete.
I have also completed the RAID engines. Some were ported and adapted from FlexRAID's RAID-F, and others were built from scratch.
There is an advanced layer that still needs to be implemented, but I will get back to it later after testing the basic concepts.

Next step: OS integration (platform specific stuffs - after this, I will have a real storage pool to play and test with).

I am not sure I really wanted to know what I know now about kernel development as I prefer to stay high level.
Heck, I even tried paying someone else to do it for me.
Anyway, I rolled up my sleeves and got it done. :)

Probably a bit early to ask but will NZFS be free for linux (debian) private use?

No.
NZFS will be commercial.

Is it even possible for one guy to make a ZFS-like file system implementation? I see SUN programmers code their ZFS for years already, its great so far, but it's still not production quality.

So how's this coming along? Has progress stalled due to the demands of FlexRAID going commercial?
I'm very interested in seeing where this heads since ZFS is a no go for me for several very important reasons.
