myFlexRAID Client (WHS & Desktop)
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:07:32 pm »
Evening all & Brahim  ;D

I've begun building my WHS Dashboard Addin, and have a rough prototype done, just to test how complicated it was to create, test and deploy addins.

Actually found out testing it would be the hardest part since there really is no easy way to debug an addin other than using logs and installing it on the server.

Therefor I wrote my own custom controls which enabled me to embed these controls in both a desktop application and whs dashboard, which makes debugging much easier :) and the added bonus of a non-whs-centric client aswell.

Right, down to business, as I see Brahim has just uploaded a new version with some fixes to JSON-RPC I'll get right back on track, time permitting.

I've attached a few screenshots, they're roughly the same only the prototype running on my desktop (windows 7) and running as an addin on my whs 2011 server.

Please do post criticism, suggestions, wanted features etc etc or just general feedback. Still in a very very early stage on this so I will listen carefully :)

Thanks

PS. Brahim, if you have any image resources you prefer me to use please let me know, I will probably have to change the ones I used since they're supplied by MS.

I actually wandered off the path here for a bit, client and dashboard addin is still progressing..

But I have made real progress in having the WHS Dashboard handle the permissions on the pool shares :) which will allow us to only have to deal with sharing in one location, the correct one imo, the whs dashboard :)

But damn that windows server solutions sdk is not the best documented api out there :p

For now it's running inside the myFlexRAID Client, but I will probably extract the code so it could be a separate addin for people not wanting the myFlexRAID Client.

Any more news on this Ramshackles? I'm really keen on getting WSH dashboard to do all the permissions as I think duplicating it in FR is a pain and will really put people off when there are solutions like Drive Bender available.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

I believe he has an upcoming exam, which he is focusing on right now.
He did tell me he has plans to resume the client after that.

Brahim was right, I was working on my final exam, which I passed.

Although I still use FlexRAID daily, I've since taken my exam started working as an executive in my dads company. Work has been intense and a much needed break from studying, however it doesn't yield a lot of time for "spare time projects".

I still hope to complete this project since I still use flexraid, and we're thinking about getting SBS 2012E for the company so it would also be using FlexRAID I reckon if possible. But for the time being there just is not enough hours in a day  :-[

I apologise for getting your hopes up, at that time I had a lot of time to spend doing projects, I'll look into getting atleast the share management up and running :)

@Ramshackles
Congrats on the exam and congrats on the new job. :)

Finishing with school and making more money working is certainly exciting.
Happy to see you pop back despite the busy schedule.

Well done dude!

Whatever you can manage I'm sure will be worth it. Even if you don't manage a full plugin is there anyway to make the shares created by the dashboard be automatically imported into flexRAID?
