LOL!  ;D

Got to be the funniest post in a long while.

I can hear the chants... final release... final release... final release...

Warms my heart, but don't worry as NZFS will put us all back in the spinner again for version 3.0. ;)

RAID-F vs NZFS => the next saga...

The more I think about it, the more it is apparent that your franken-server needs NZFS.
Did you read: http://www.openegg.org/2012/01/16/nzfs-news-zero-scrubbing-zero-maintenance-design/
So, sit tight and get ready. ;)

I'm a little bit worried about that "no maintenance" part. What are we supposed to do then? How are we going to show everyone our excellence with complicated storage technology, if NZFS maintains itself?

There should at least be some placebo command line functions, that LOOKS really important (and complicated) but actually doesn't do anything.

I suggest something like this (note: this is only a draft version):

Code: [Select]
c:\maintain-flxr-nzfs
[connect to:] localhost:5451
[Connection successful!]
do-maintenance -scrub:yes-please -theads:8 -mem:aggressive-dynamic -volumes:all -verbose:yes -impresslevel:maximum
[command OK. Waiting for your friends to show up and see the magic. Press [enter] when ready...]

Now, how cool would that be!  8) Should I open a request for this in Mantis?  ;D

@paavor

Hehe... indeed.  ;D
Seriously, I hear you.

The good news is that there are many aspects of NZFS that are user fine-tunable (for performance), which should keep us busy.
I don't want to spoil it yet, but there a many aspects of NZFS that will make you smile...
Okay, let me get out of here before I spill the beans...  :P

NZFS sounds great, but I doubt it's more of a whishfull thinking kind....

Scrubbing is the only way to recognize rotten data due to degrade of the magnetism of the surface
or the degrade in SSD cells by leaking some electrons over time to other areas on the chip...

So a kind "refresh" is not that bad at least for HD's (read / rewrite).

But I am very keen to see what will come next!

Hehe... I thought someone would say that.
You certainly understand the issue at hand, and I find that refreshing. You just don't know what I am thinking. At least not yet. ;)

If only you knew the rest of it.  ;)
I am struggling so hard to keep my mouth shut until NZFS is ready for prime.  :-X
Seriously though, many things about NZFS are turning more and more interesting as I keep architecting it.

Well get over it.
I spent many hours on helping this become a better product for YOU.
Using my live system among other systems.

BTW after 25+ years in computing I hardly have a teacher on this or be someone's pet.

Oh no.. Sorry! This was supposed to be a joke!  :( It clearly lacked a smiley or two and/or a couple of words..

I didn't mean anything else with that. It was just a simple, stupid joke. Since we are in the "Pub"..

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all the things that you are doing.

(I have been messing with computers +25 years too.)

Sorry again. I'll take my off-topic stupid jokes somewhere else.  :)
