Raid-F OnSetEndOfFile and OpenHandleWritable
« on: July 04, 2014, 09:57:17 am »
Hello, I am evaluating Flexraid RAID-F that has some interesting features, but in some systems where I tested it, I got some problems:

[OnSetEndOfFile] Denying truncate on allocation for non-writable handle!
[OpenHandleWritable] info not found <for file to copy>

Will this issue solved soon ?
I'm not interested on tRAID for his poor write performances, can anyone helps me ?

Thanks in advance

It is not a bug. The client application is opening the file read-only and now that to do some write operation on it. RT RAID is stricter than normal (than the normal file system) in that regard.

So how can I solve this situation? I am very interested in the Raid-F and I would buy it, but if I do not solve this problem before I can proceed with the purchase of the license

IMHO it is a bug, in fact if I copy the same file from Desktop to another disk unit (SATA or USB) it goes ok, but when I choose flexRAID storage pool as destination it gives  me source read error.

I think you missed the part where RT RAID is stricter (aka, that's part of the restrictions in RT RAID).
RT RAID builds it own lightweight filesystem on top of your filesystem and tries to be as transparent as possible. However, all filesystems have their particularities.

So, client programs written sloppily will have issues with RT RAID.

If the restrictions of RT RAID don't work for you, you should look at tRAID (Transparent RAID).

I'm trying that now... RT Raid has very good concepts, but it doesn't work for me.
tRAID instead is more robust but I have poor transfer performances on it around 30-40 mb/s when I tried to transfer around 100gb of datas.
I'm very confused, and I don't know what raid it's ok for me :(

Again see the performance threads on tRAID and look into the landing disk feature.

Brahim you've answered this twice the same way and I'm not sure I understand your answer about "client programs".

I guess I never said so explicitely, but just copying to the array through windows 7 explorer produces the error.  I don't have any client programs which write to the array, I have a 30TB RT array and ALL data is copied manually through windows explorer.

I think if you read the other threads again where this has been reported about RT (see my earlier thread for links), you'll see that users are not reporting an intermittant problem writing to the pool from certain client programs, but a complete inability to write to the pool no matter what they do.

Are you actually testing these new updates for RT on a true Windows machine?

So far not 1 single RT user has reported back that they have the latest updates working with windows.  But you do have several users saying they do not work.

Place it in <install root>\ext and then reboot.

FlexRAID-2.0-Final_u12 posted by MrBlaze goes fine, I'm copying 8TB of data through lan and after 12 hours all is ok.
I follow this thread hoping that this problem will be solved with next releases of the software

See my previous post for it.

I'll install 12c later today and give it a try.  I'll post back with the results.

All users having issues with RT not writing to the pool:

http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3901.0;attach=3107

replace C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenEgg.org\FlexRAID RAID-F 2.0\ext\w_class1_0.dl
