Large Media Pool - Best Run-Time Properties for speed/accuracy?
« on: December 19, 2017, 11:41:10 am »
Hi!

I've been using Flexraid for about 4 years now and am happy - it does what I need.  I recently upgraded some base components (after some hardware failures) and more than doubled my space and am looking for the ideal settings to maintain bit-exact data and still get the best speed.

Configuration is as follows;
Mobo: Asus p9x79-WS, latest BIOS
CPU - E5-2670v2, 10 core 2.5Ghz Xeon processor
RAM - 32GB 1866MHz DDR3, Quad Channel, 10-10-10-27 2t, 1.5v
OS - Windows 7 x64, latest updates
Flexraid - Latest Raid-F (11/2017) build, clean install, snapshot cruise control.
Related Apps - Diskeeper 16 Pro (IntelliMemory, IntelliWrite enabled), HD Sentinel Pro
OS Drive - OCZ Vertex 4 128GB - unpooled
Apps Drive - OCZ Vertex 4 128GB - unpooled
Scratch Disk - WD Black 500GB - unpooled

Pooled Drives - all have write behind caching off, APM off, recycle bin off, hot-swap enabled

PPU's - x2 8TB WD RED, 8TB PPU size.
DRU's - x5 8TB DRU's, spanned across 3 disks (4,2,2 x1; 3,3,2 x4)
Total Drive Count - 15 disks in DRU's (spanned) and 2 disks in PPU's (standalone).

Controllers - Mobo controllers + M1015 IT (8i jbod) Mode & 9200-8e (8e jbod) to an intel RES2SV240 all running latest available firmware.

I'm looking for the ideal settings for;

Processes (3)
I/O Buffer Size (1MB)
Parity Space Reserve (50MB)

please let me know your thoughts/advice.

Thanks

There are tooltips on each of the options.

Processes (3)
This should never be less than 3. You will need to benchmark to find the optimal value for your system.

I/O Buffer Size (1MB)
The default is a good value. Benchmark with different values to see what's best for your system.

Parity Space Reserve (50MB)
You mean "Storage Pool Reserve"? This should be larger than the largest file you will ever copy into the pool.

I want to know very much How fast is it? I've tried my hand, but I have to have someone faster than me.
