Flexraid F won't update. Java Out of memory error
« on: February 12, 2018, 08:50:14 am »
Hi: My windows machine won't update any longer showing a memory error (below from the Flexraid logs). This is an old build I installed today to check if it's a build issue but get exactly the same error with the newest release which was running up to today for months but showed this error for the past couple weeks. Also the Flexraid process seems to hang with 39% memory usage (12 GB memory installed on my Gigabyte GA-890-UDP3) and then the service hangs and the storage pool disappears.

Update: Appears this began the day after I conducted a forced sync/verify operation on the latest release...(the reason on the forced sync/verify is that a normal validate or verify never works...)

Try rebuilding the parity anew.

I deleted the config and started over from scratch as I didn't know what a rebuild meant. That fixed it.

Exactly same issue here, scheduled updates started to fail with a java outofmemory error.

Lived with the failure until I decided to add a new drive to the pool and re-create the array.

1 Deleted the configuration
2 Added te drive as a new PPU and formatted old PPU to act as new DRU
3 Tried to create and after 3 days got:

I have since: Deleted the config and used expert (was cruise control), Failed again, Installed different w_class1_0.dl per other forum posts, OutofMemory again, completely uninstalled and reinstalled FlexRaid, manually balanced DRUs (one was too full) and giving it a last chance. (Not much hope too since process flexraid.exe has increased its memory usage by 1000% in the last 20 hours) and it is stuck "reading" one of the DRUs and saving nothing in the PPU.

MB Intel, CPU Core i5, 12 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64 Bits.

I really wanted to love this product... Too far from reliable and too far from set and forget.

Replying to my own post, Is there anything more pathetic? I have FIXED my own problem, just wanted to givre some advice in case anyone runs into a similar situation.

My problem was that process flexraid.exe was "stuck" into une of my DRUs and started to progressively eat all the 12 GB of system RAM, after roughly 3 days the process would halt with an out of memory error in the log.

Now, I don´t know how I got into this in the first place but I assume it was some kind of power faliure or failed windows update but the culprit was a hidden directory called .@recycler$ that somehow became "unreadable" for the system, flexraid was stuck trying to read it and couldn´t get pass it. I couldn´t erase it so I moved all files from this disk to another disk, formatted the drive with the dreaded .@recycler$ folder and voila! Create is progressing as we speak and resource monitor shows that my PPU is being written to.

I still think support here is a little bit nonexistant and hope Brahim resurfaces from wherever he has been, I have little hope for the product tough and even less for the "One" project.

Regards from Mexico.

Would you mind explaining how you figured this out?  Very glad you did, but it might help others if we knew how you were able to track this down.  Was it just something you saw in the RAID-F log files?
