tRaid suddenly stopped working on windows server 2016
« on: May 15, 2018, 08:35:59 am »
Hi,

I have been using tRaid for over a year and have not really had any problems till now, suddenly the pool stopped starting giving the error

The storage pool cannot be started as there is no mounted volume to pool!

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting at every stage, even tried different hard drives/USB drives, tried just creating a storage pool, the web UI works fine, can register all the disks, go through the wizard fine, but every time I try to start the pool it gives the error

Looking at the log the only info for the time when I try to start it is

[2018-04-24 10:25:08,836] INFO  start(56) - Setting Http port to 8080
[2018-04-24 10:25:09,077] INFO  start(56) - Https port not set. Https requests will not be serviced...

[2018-05-15 14:32:02,415] WARN  getDiskInfos(757) - ErrorCode=21 ErrorMessage=The device is not ready.

Any ideas on whats happened or what to try

Thanks

Matt

This is your problem. For some reason it cant mount the pool.

[2018-04-24 10:25:49,278] WARN  run(41) - The storage pool cannot be started as there is no mounted volume to pool!

What OS are you running it on?

@bluebuddha
Is there any software you installed recently that you can think of that could be interfering?

Check the Windows event viewer for additional clues.

Hi,

No software has been installed, this is my home server than runs headless as a media server, cant find anything in event viewer, going back through all the logs, it looks like something happened at 1:17, then when trying to access it had no luck starting the array

lists the same for all the hard drives in the system, then with every reboot I did that day trying to get it working just lists

after trying to uninstall/reinstall and various reboots the log now just states

[2018-04-23 13:43:31,593] WARN  run(41) - The storage pool cannot be started as there is no mounted volume to pool!

[2018-04-23 14:39:26,402] WARN  getDiskInfos(757) - ErrorCode=21 ErrorMessage=The device is not ready.

the only thing I can find that would have been installed around that date was these updates that installed on the 18th, maybe a delayed reboot?

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - April 2018 (KB890830)
2018-04 Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4093137)
2018-04 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4093119)

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Matt

Disk "ST3000DM001-1E6166 ATA Device" might not be healthy.
It looks like it might have failed. Are you able to see it in the Windows disk manager? Are you able to run SMART on it?

Transparent RAID won't flag a disk as failed until write operations affecting that disk fail. This is for flexibility.
Disk health management is done through the SMART monitoring feature. So, use SMART to check on the health of that disk.

Hi,
I had one drive in the system which had a couple of bad sectors but was not part of the array, was working fine when the drive was still there, used as a temp storage drive, that drive has finally been replaced, all drives are reporting as healthy according to Crystal disk, even tried setting up just a basic storage pool with 2 brand new drives no raid setup and still get the same error,

For a while when this first happened it was listing errors cannot find disk for all 8 that where in the array,

When I get time going to try disconnecting all drives and reinstalling software then try it with just the 2 new drives, more for peace of mind and only thing I have not tried

You might need to wipe out that OS and start clean. If this is not hardware related, then something on the OS is causing this.
