I recently found of my disks failed.

I did a restore to another replacement disk and it completed successfully.

Unfortunately, verify still failed - but I wanted to start copying the existing data off the array.

But when I try to start it, after a few seconds of "executing operation", I get the following pop-up message:

"There was an error adding the specified device to the disk controller!"

Looking at event viewer, the only thing I see is that "Disk 12 was surprise removed" - I don't have a disk 12 when I enumerate the disks using winobj or Get-PhysicalDisk | Select -Prop DeviceId,FriendlyName,SerialNumber.  My guess is the "removed" disk was the raid itself.

I tried google searching for this error but nothing came up.
