Reinstall OS without NZFS-CONFIG.db backup
« on: January 09, 2019, 10:17:32 am »
I am undergoing a failing OS disk on my NAS that is running Flexraid t-RAID. The current OS is Windows Server 2012 R2, and I plan to reinstall the OS into Windows 10 (because I couldn't run Blackblaze or Google FS on the server OS). The data on the FlexRAID array is still intact in every way.

The failing disk is preventing me from backing up the NZFS-CONFIG.db file -- which is not a big issue as I could setup the array again without data loss -- at most I would only need to re-calculate the parity data. However, would I be able the re-activate the license after the OS install? Can I use the same unlock key that I used to activate FlexRAID on Windows Server 2012 to activate it on Windows 10? There will not be any hardware change -- but the drivers will probably be different.

Thank you.

Hi!

I would because of the info in this thread
http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/topic,49585.0.html
recommend you to install the same OS on the same hardware at the moment. If/when Brahim is back then I would change.
Server HW: Chenbro RM41416 case | Supermicro X11SCZ-F + LSI SAS 9305-16i | i3-8300 | 16 GB DDR4 ECC Ram
Server OS:   Windows Server 2016 (UEFI) on  250 GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 ssd
tRAID 1.1.0 2017.02.11
Backupserver: Supermicro X10SLM-F UEFI + LSI SAS9211-8i IT FW
Server OS: Win 2016 + tRAID

Thanks @b-earl for the heads up! I guess I shall not touch it for the time being...
