Ok, so the sizes I took directly from the drives as reported from the SMART data; so if the data says this:

Size: 1000202273280 (931.510 GB)

Then I should work with the 931.510GB size and not the larger byte size? I thought they should be the same number, but even then multiplying the GB number in to KB gives a slightly different size.

If I create in MB, am I likely to run in to trouble?  As the offsets appear to be 10MB, should that be the optimum at maximising space?  What are you using for the cruise control option?

Disk sizes don't stay constant. This has to do with sectors getting reallocated and what not.

Just work with whole GB values.
