Title: FlexRAID Order Page

(http://wiki.flexraid.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/callout_default.png) (http://www.flexraid.com/download-try-buy/)

I would like to reiterate my thanks to all those that have been and are supporting the project.
For me, it is more than the money. It is the encouragement to take the project to new heights. :)

Check this:
@tonym
RAID-F is being licensed on a perpetual non-transferable basis (so, no worrying about re-occurring bills :) )

Doing my due diligence and testing the packaged build (release testing).
The FlexRAID build process is a bit convoluted, and I am trying to avoid releasing a bad build. Sorry if it is taking longer than planned. :)

By the way, the registration process, once installed, went flawlessly. I wanted to thank you for the generous offer to past donors. I wasn't expecting anything in return and you never promised anything, so it's been a nice and much appreciated surprise.

Thank you.

Hey, Im trying to order Raid-F + pooling but get the following error page from Paypal :(

I'm getting this same error when I click 'buy now' from the flexraid order page, am I doing something wrong?

Update: So I get that error on Firefox 11 and Safari (per Kirky) but I was able to complete the order using IE8 if that's helpful to anybody.

How long does it typically take to receive the access code?  I ordered this morning but haven't received an email yet.

Edit: Spoke to soon.  I ordered at 9 AM EST and received the code just before 2 PM EST.

@justincase102
Brahim wrote in some thread that it can take about 48 hours.
For my code it took 12 hours.

There is a bit of a manual process with order processing right now leaving me to do things in batches.
I will automate the process a bit later after the Linux release is out.

The next batch of orders has been processed. Thanks the purchase and support.

Will the license be valid for Windows and Linux?
Or is it Windows OR Linux?

For example: If I have windows server now, and register the license then it is registered to my system.

But if I want to install Linux om my server instead of Windows (say somewhere in the next months).
Will it be possible to use the same license for the Linux server (since it is the same machine and the Windows license won't be active anymore).

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Brahim,

I've received my key and activated the final build. However it seems that I may need to reinstall the OS today or tomorrow (finally got an SSD drive for the OS!). Will I be able to re-use my key or is there some special procedure I need to follow (eg. contact you)?

When exactly does Beta14 stop working?  Does it work through to midnight on the 21st and expire at 12AM on the 22nd?  I purchased yesterday, but haven't received a code yet.  Which is fine, I'm in no hurry, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't caught off-guard.

There is nothing you need to do if you are going to be using the same configuration DB as a copy of your activation key is saved there.
If you will be using a new configuration DB, simply copy your activation key at the root of where you have FlexRAID installed.
In both cases, no re-activation will be required.
A copy of your activation key was sent to you by email by the way.

Still, you can re-activate automatically online if you wish (if you lost all copies of you activation key).
Just like FlexRAID, everything is flexible. :)

Don't quote me on it, but I think that build will expire closer to month end (I could be wrong).
So, play with your clock to see. :)

Yes, received the activation key and stored that. And yes, will be using the same configuration DB since it's going to be the same box, but fresh OS. Good to know that all I need is just to reuse 'FlexRAID-Config.db'. And good job on making this so easy!

Thanks man!

I bought the combined raid and pooling pack. Received the puchase code and installed. All is well.

I have later received another mail with the Registration key.

What's the purpose of this registration key? Is it needed somewhere or should I install it somewhere?
Essentially what's the difference between purchase code and registration key and what's the purpose of both?

I don't think you missed anything.  That's when I paid as well, and still haven't seen anything.  I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for the fact that the webUI is indicating it's going to expire @ 1AM tonight.   :(

When did I fall asleep. LOL I didn't know there was going to be a final release and a payment needed.

I do like the software and plan on purchasing it when I get paid.

How is the support going to be handled? I had issues with beta and didn't get much from the forums.

It sucks now because my server will be down for a couple days while I decide what I want to do.

How do you upgrade? Where is a guide on how to do it properly?

- Stop Flexraid services
- if you configured your logging_options.txt and port.js, copy them somewhere temporary
- Uninstall FR
- empty your browser cache
- Reboot
- install FR
- At the last screen of the setup select start service but dont hit finish yet. Copy back your logging_options.txt and port.js back to here location. then start the service

(Hi, please feel free to delete this and pm the answer if this is too much of a noob question)
I have been looking in the wiki and still not sure which "flavor" of FlexRAID should I purchase.
RAID-F is just "snapshot" protection but no volume spanning ("pooling"), right? So if I want parity protection and volume spanning I must buy RAID-F + Pooling, am I right?

TIA

i am glad to see you are making this a commercial project, it really is worth the money. However i really think you need to spend some time sorting out your order fulfilment process, and that this should have been done before you introduced licencing. I have just paid for a licence , when can i expect it to arrive?

Cheers

As posted, it will take up to 48 hours to get your license although I am processing them now every 24 hours.
I am still working the fulfillment process. For now, there is a manual step in the process which I am trying to automate.

This is no offense!.... Today my flexraid installation stopped working / or had expired... i don't know.

However... i restarted my PC... just to find out... that my flexraid drive is gone.... no problem i thought myself... uninstall the previous version and download the latest version.... downloaded it... installed it.... and then i saw the "license" screen.... i thought myself WHAT ?!!? How to i get my flexraid drive back ??? ... no "Trial Period" neither !!

Well then... i went ahead and purchased a license.... and now i'm sitting here... waiting for the license key... with no flexraid drive online anymore... reading that it takes 48 hours due to a manual process ???

Please speed up the process... or at least give an option to run it in trial mode !

Yeah, not too thrilled it went from free to pay right when I finally decided to switch. Guess I should have waited to wipe my FREENAS box and offload everything on to spare drives until I actually checked the site to see what was currently going on.... Kind of a FAIL on my part, now sitting here twiddling my thumbs with no parity, Didn't mind paying you for your work and future support, definitely not thrilled about waiting for 48 hours just to get to get into the GUI. Anyhow, happy to be back to windows for storage to run other apps on the sidelines and get rid of another box by combining server roles.

EDIT: received my key in roughly 26 hours, Ty

An FYI, i think build 14 expires today (4/01) since I reboot the server yesterday and the flex raid drive came up fine. but now it didn't and webui was offline after restarting it.

Wow, that was a "nice" April fools joke: My FlexRAID just stopped working, because I didn't see that there is actually a new version after Beta 14. So I just ordered the complete package (which is worth every penny) and I am waiting for my key.

I need FlexRAID on a server in RAID-F + Pooling and on my PC in Pooling mode only. Do I have to buy two licenses for that?

Thanks and keep up the great work

I've been using FlexRAID for a long time and I really appreciate all the hard work that's been done on it. I fully understand why Brahim would want to commercialize it. That said, I have a couple criticisms of the implementation of said commercialization:
Title: Re: FlexRAID Order Page
Post by: JSchaller on April 01, 2012, 11:14:58 pm
  • Notice: My FlexRAID pool crapped out spontaneously today. Right in the middle of working with iTunes, the program froze up, and then the whole machine crashed on me. After several reboots, I couldn't get my pool to come back online. I checked my calendar, and I had noted that the current FlexRAID beta was not expected to expire until JULY, not today. I re-downloaded and re-installed FlexRAID, and was told by the installer that this beta has expired. After digging through the forums I found that FlexRAID has been turned commercial, and I gathered that a killswitch must have been hit, nuking my installation prematurely. Now yes, there was a notice of the commercialization in the forum in February, but it's not like I have nothing better to do than visit and read this forum every day. I marked the expected beta expiry in my calendar and did not intend on checking back here until that date. I would have appreciated it if an email had been sent out to all forum users notifying us that our software was going to go tits-up on us all of a sudden.
  • Price: Personally I think the price point is a bit high. But I've already bought it on sale, and I can't complain too much. Just an FYI that had I had to pay the full $100 for parity and pooling, and had I received more notice than my pool suddenly dying on me, I may have spent some time shopping around for alternatives. As it is, I'm already going to be about 48 hours waiting for my key without a usable storage pool due to lack of notice before the killswitch, so Brahim kinda has me by the short and curlies.
I totally sign that! This is exactly the story I went through yesterday.
Don't get me wrong the software is great, but the "no trial" and the killswitch thing are totally unacceptable.
Even having to wait up to 48 hours is quite bad.
Switching to commercial is right but the timing is quite bad.

I also ordered yesterday, nearly 24 hours ago.
Waiting up to 48 hours until I can even try to check if something went wrong with my order isn't the best thing in the world.

Hopefully my purchase code arrives today. I want to access my data w/o messing around with drive settings & shares!

I don't have a problem with switching to commercial, but the ordering process leaves something to be desired (especially when my pooled drives seem to be being held for ransom since I can't do anything with FlexRaid until my activation arrives).

Part of going commercial is dealing with paid customer complaints, and I have to say that I'm not happy, but as long as I don't have to wait 48 hours for an activation code I won't bitch too much.  :)

Register using the purchase code and passcode from that email.
After you register, an e-mail with a password will be sent to you, which you can change after you login.

Any word on whether this is a lifetime license? Just read through the whole thread and even though a few have asked, I saw no answer.

My FR beta timed out and I don't really have time to find an alternative, so I'd be more than happy to pay if I know that I'm not going to get shut out later on.

Thanks for the great software!

Yep. You can (and are really expected to) change the password after you login.
Look at the options in the start menu. There is "Logout" and "Pass Change".

The count is how many times you contacted the server for activation services. Maybe I should remove that column if it is confusing.
The activation start/end dates are your activation window. For your own protection, and mostly if you don't plan to activate now, you can set a future or past date to specify when an activation request should be considered valid. This way, if someone steals your purchase code they won't be able to activate before you. Once you activate, the window becomes meaningless as no one will be able to re-activate using that same key but you.

I can understand going commercial, but the way in which it has been done is not very customer friendly at all. My setup failed to work yesterday when i switched it on, and no clue to why. Downloaded the lastest beta from the forum and that didnt want to work either because of expiry date. I was baffled really, untill i found the order page.

Could not access my data, so i had to change the date on my pc to get flexraid to work again :(

50 dollars doable and i do understand going commercial. I will check for other cheaper options though, and some info and longer expiry date for all the people that have been using the beta's would have been nice. The killswitch and the buy now or its gone strategy is really bad, and that is an understatement.

With paying comes the concern, Is it lifetime, what if the activation server isnt online, is it hardware locked, what if i need to change my motherboard, and so on. That is way i stay away as much as possible from commercial software, its more a pain than a gain. Flexraid was fantastic and now that it is done, the problems come.

I'm still confused on the activation process as well.  I'm not going to build my server for another month or two, do I:

A.  Go through the activation on the portal to receive a password and then use it when I build the server, or do I

B.  Wait until the build is completed and then email you for another window to activate the license on the portal?

Hi Brahim,

Congratulations on your new commercial release! I went to download the software and noticed a few things acting weird though (before purchasing it). Malwarebytes picks up a few files in the jittemp folder and notes them as a Backdoor.Bot. Should I be worried?

That being said I've received nothing to register since buying it. I got a payment confirmation from Paypal but nothing since.

I can wait if it takes a while but no where did it say I should have to wait and i'm geeking out about getting this all set up again.

So how long should I sit refresh my email before really freaking out?

EDIT: Never mind I was to excited to read everything... guess I have to wait 48 hours. Sad panda :( Guess I'll have something to do on a Saturday night for once :P

Err... the code does not expire.
Your license is a lifetime license.

When you first purchase FlexRAID, you get a default 7 days activation window for your own protection.
You can log into the portal and change that activation window to be any range.
The activation window protects you if you buy FlexRAID now and don't plan to activate till sometime in the future.
This helps prevent someone stealing your code and activate behind you.
Once activated, the activation window become meaningless as no one else can successfully use that purchase code than the first person that activated.

I will try to change the e-mail to avoid further confusion.

I'm sorry, but this is still not clear.  I'm going to build sometime (don't know the date) in the future.  According to the email, I have until April 17th, to provide a date that I don't know to protect myself from someone stealing my code?  Once I activate the activation window becomes meaningless?  Which means if I put in the wrong dates, what exactly happens?

What should I do if I am unsure of my build date.

Since I have already activated mine I do not know what is possible. But why don't you choose an activation windows one year from now. And when you want to install you change that window to the actual date you need. If you need more time then you choose an new date in one year.

That is the problem at the moment, it is all so unclear. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into such a system, i know all to well how hard it is to create software. Flexraid is great, but the current state of ordering / paying and not knowing exactly how everything works is frustrating. Is this one of those "hardware key" type installations, where we have to contact the creator if we need a new motherboard ? And the 48 hour thing unnecessary , setup a website where a script send you the code the moment you pay.

Love the program, but W8 is coming, has similar features but it has to format the drives, that is why i like FR so much, quick and no formatting. But the license being unclear, and the relativly high price point is a bummer.

Just my 2 cents :)

There is no such thing as wrong dates.
You can change the window at any time to be anything.
You can even set the date to a past date to force the window to close and later set it to a new date to re-open the window.

So, even if the window expires, your code is still valid.

The problem is people misinterpreting the email, which happens.
So, please do read the e-mail for yourself.

People posting their confusion (as statement) is causing more confusions to other users.
English is not the native language of many users around here and so that's part of the issue.

Here is an example of the e-mail going out:
Quote
Thank you for your purchase of XXXXX ...

You can register, import, and manage your licenses through the FlexLicensing (TM) consumer portal.

Please visit https://secure.flexraid.com to access the consumer portal.

Your license is perpetual (lifetime) and you will get all 2.x updates for free.

Purchase code: XXXXXX

FlexLicensing (TM) Registration/Import passcode: XXXXX

Your FlexLicensing (TM) registration passcode expires on XXXX/XX/XX (year/month/day).

Your purchase has been assigned an activation window of 7 days from today for your protection.

You will need to login into your FlexLicensing (TM) account to reset that window if you do not activate within the 7 days range.

Enjoy and visit http://forum.flexraid.com if you have any question. :)

So, there are two things going on:
- Your purchase code
- Your FlexLicensing (TM) account registration info

As explain before, hardware changes are supported without needing to re-activate.
If you change everything, then you need a license transfer, which is simple and takes less time than the time you are putting in the hardware changes.

Hi,

I purchased Flexraid yesterday and got the purchase code within 12 hours.
I am using Win7.

When I tried to register online using purchase code, the page return "Operation Failure: invalid request"
I did manage to download the pre reg file (FlexRAID.PreRegistration.Info), but offline
activation through portal also tells me "Operation failure, invalid request"

Please help.

Thanks.

I bought a license on April 6th and I still haven't activated it yet. I'm having a little trouble getting the hardware I want to build the server. I see I have to go to the portal to reactivate it since it's been after a week, is it going to be an issue if I still wait a little longer? It isn't going to expire or anything, is it?

You are fine.
You can wait for as long as you want.

However, to log into the portal and associate your license(s) with your account so that you can manage them.

I'm ready to use it now, but FlexRaid says "Invalid Request!" and when I try to register an account on the customer portal, it says "Invalid Registration Info". The email says the code expired on 4/20. How can I reactivate it to use it?

Hi Brahim

Is there any problem with update7?
I am trying to test out the pooling before activating my license.
I keep getting this error when trying to create a storage pool.

ERROR: Manage error! Code=2148204816 Message=The certificate is not valid for the requested usage.

I have activated my Pool License and have the same problem. Or is it Pool License I cannot create storage pool?
I have another machine with version 2 update 4 with the full license does not have this issue.

Spend the whole night trying to figure this out and its really frustrating.

One suggestion, an option allow the user to change the listening port of the UI..
I had the SABNZBD installed which also used localhost:8080...

There is an option, you have to manually change that right now in the ports.js file I believe.  You'll find it in the flexraid program directory.  This may or may not be in the wiki, I just remember it from reading the forums.

Title: FlexRaid Realtime Raid - Any chance the RTR "sale" price can be extended?
Post by: bigbob on May 05, 2012, 11:36:45 am
Hi Brahim,

I've been waiting on two 2TB drives I ordered which only arrived yesterday, before I installed RTR and put it through its paces.  I knew today was the last day to purchase at the discounted price of $59.99 so I was here to purchase and download.  However, now I'm concerned after reading the recent posts that it is still more beta than production.  Plus it looks like you are about to release v7.  Would you consider extending the sale price on just RTR until it is more stable?  Money is tight for a lot of people, including me and spending $60 on a product I may never be able to use makes me uncomfortable.

Thank you sir.

I wouldn't consider it "beta". I've never had a problem with any of the FlexRAIDs I've used, including the real "public beta" releases. They all worked great.

For anyone having the same question as "asian", you get the pre-registration data from the pre-registration file you generate on the computer that is having FlexRAID installed on it.

My apologies as i'm sure this has already been covered, but the thread is pretty long.

I was just wondering how long a license purchase is good for?  Am I going to need to buy a new license every time a new version or update is released?  Will I need to pay a small update fee?  Will I need to pay another licensing fee when NZFS is released?  Just really want to know how long I am good for purchasing the combo or pooling/raid.

Thanks

Hi robbbby!

You are entitled to all 2.x version has Brahim written I think in the wiki. Since NZFS is another product, it will require an own license.

I am planning on buying a couple of licenses today or tomorrow, but I have to ask just to make sure because I got burned by another company before, but these licenses are yours forever correct? In other words, v3 comes out and I don't need/want/like the features, v2 will continue to work forever and not expire and attempt to force an upgrade.

Edit: Also regarding the license, one of the licenses I am buying is for WHSv1, but if I decide to retire the box and build a linux based one, will the license transfer to the new machine even though it will use a different OS?

Hi LurkerLito

The license is a lifetime license that you can use as long as you like the version, should be no force to update.
There is a webpage for license owners where they themselves can deactivate a license on one computer so that it can be activated on another one instead.
Hope I could help you with these answers.

Hi!

I bought a RAID-F + Storage Pooling license back in late march this year. Never activated it (short story: HDD prices skyrocketed and project was halted)
Now that I finally built a server, I've downloaded and installed the latest version (2.0 u9) and want to activate it.

How should I proceed?

TIA!

Hi donkey33,
I think I'm this thread it is written somewhere that it takes about 48 h to get the code.
Please do not write the email address in real in the forum because the spam bots will get the address and it will take longer for Brahim to answer the mails because he first has to sort out all the spam mails.
Since it is weekend and a one-man business wait until Monday and you should have the code.

I entered the purchase code for online activation as it asked me to. Took me straight to my login and my config page (was using the trial) so that all worked but I can't seem to register on the consumer portal.

I assume I have to register so used my purchase code and registration passcode from the email I received. Set a username but it is telling me I have invalid registration info. How can I register?

Also, what is this registration key  from another email? In a text file?

For the consumer portal, you have to use the purchase code and registration code.
Software activation and consumer portal registration are two separate things.

I got 2 hardware 12-port raid controller and I’m tired of the lack of flexibility it’s a real pain in the ass so I got my FlexRAID license a few days ago  :D I got the combo and got lucky it’s on sale only $59.95.
I bump on FlexRAID a few year ago and I see this is RAID-F system is become a really cool product. I really like the mixed HDD size capabilities is RAID mode and if you don’t want the RAID array anymore . . . well you can break it down without losing your data   try that with a classic RAID controller ( NO way )
So I can only say It’s worth every penny ( in my case every Euro cent )

You can reset your activation by going to System Control Panel -> Toolbox -> Reset Activation.
After the activation has been reset, you will be presented with the activation screen.

A new order processing system will be in place this coming weekend and will finally automate this process.
Selling FlexRAID really came as an afterthought and hence why there is a number of administrative things to iron out.
Nevertheless, improvements are being made. :)

I bought my license (Pooling + RAID F) last week and got it one day after payment, so great service.

Thanks!

My situation:
Before reading your wiki (about the extended trial period), I started testing your software on a test server.  The flexraid array had 4 DDU and 1 PPU.  Recently, I have migrated these drives over to the Production server.

I have done the migration tutorial (on the wiki) in every detail.  I get a message when trying to do the transfer of the old license to "contact sales."  I have dealt with sales for a little over a week, corresponding back and forth via email.  I'm not sure if this is a 1-man operation, but the service is lack-luster at best, and offensive at worse.  The wiki tutorial for the migration says you have to migrate your flexraid hard drives over to the new server -- something I did.  However, sales is stating that logs say otherwise, in one-line emails, with no real explanation.  I have been anticipating a response to "which drive is missing?" for 2 days now.  It's pretty frustrating to say the least.  I spent $60 for Flexraid, which as product would be totally worth it -- only if I could use it and service inquiries did not take 2-3 days to reply to an email.  Please help me resolve this issue.  I have migrated my entire raid array from the old server.  If log files on your end are saying otherwise, tell me what to do to rectify those log files.  All files that were involved in the array (there were some that were not part of the array) have been transfered over.

If the problem persists, I don't see why the old license can not be deactivated [on flexraid's end] and I am provided a new one.

Paid by credit card in April, 2013 but never received an email with the license key.  Made a cute pdf of the order page but that computer expired unexpectedly.  All I have is the credit card statement of the payment.  What can I do now to try and obtain the license key and how do I do it.  Thanks

At least you have had contact with the sales 'team'. I have sent 4 emails and nobody replied on either of them. Disturbing.

Hello

I ordered and paid by Paypal on sunday (09/02/2013).

Do you guys know if new licenses are being activated in 48 hours? Or is taking more days?

I extended my trial license for more days, but I will not start use FlexRaid in production while I not receive the license key.

Thank

Whats your returns policy? I have not used my code bought 14 days ago. UK law says I can return for refund (I am in UK)... Wanted to see if you had any policy on returns/refunds that might be more generous (many do)?

I will go on record now to say I wish to return/refund my unused code...  so as to preserve my rights.

LOL... Was about to email but the email page is broken (Recaptca down) and then decided to post on forum and saw my previous post from 2 years ago (of course zero reply from Brahim n co). I guess I failed to return my unwanted purchase?!?

Have there been any changes in last 2 years on your licensing rules? I also got stiffed before cos I changed my hardware and \"lost\" a licence. Been using unRAID and SnapRAID since. Might consider FlexRAID again if/when the licensing \"deal\" gets fixed...
