So the LOTR RAR file, I can't delete... Windows is saying that its not there, yet I see it in explorer and FLEXRAID is seeing it too.

How do I clear out errors like this, want to delete both files. The Deliverance MKV, I haven't messed with yet and I will try to copy it off the array and put it back on.

What does force sync do, I heard the blurb don't use unless you know your data is good.... well two files aren't good and would want those issues corrected.

Thanks for any help, kind of woried that I am one week into using the program and I am already getting errors, any pointers to void these issues down the road. A complete parity rebuild isn't a bad thing now, but down the road it will be more painfull.

Storage Pooling / Adding Drive to existing Pool w/ 2 PPUs NOT WORKING?
« on: April 05, 2012, 01:04:52 pm »
Maybe this has been answered, but can't seem to find it.

So I have Cruise Control running a snapshot RAID with 2-PPU + 3-DRU...

I added a new drive to the pool in the GUI, but my actual FLEXRAID drives's capacity stays the same in My Computer. It shows as being added in FLEXRAID, just the flexraid drive in windows did not grow at all in size after the addition.

Prob missing something simple, can someone walk me through this. I ended up deleting/uninstalling FLEXRAID since the drives were empty so I can start with a clean slate, I still have 2-PPU and 3-DRU, my new drive shows up as avail to add to the pool....

Also, please don't say well add the drive at the start of the creation because I want to know how to add capacity for future additional drives w/o starting over.

Thanks

Best 4 -port 6Gbps SATA controller for the $$$? Want 6Gbps to match the 4 SATA ports running drives on MB, granted drives don't need it but want same interface for future possibily of SSD in 5 years or so.

Don't need RAID and don't care about SMART all that much, would be nice I guess as a bonus but not a req.
Want it to be 4x PCI Express, have 3 slots to fill on board for future expansion so trying to get best bang for buck.
While price is main concern,  Win7 driver stability and hardware quality aren't far behind price.

So I have (5) 2 TB drives: Looking to go 3 DRU 2 PPU

1 drive is new drive I used to offload .mkv from previous ZFS FREENAS filesystem, 40GB remaining (full to the brim)
3 drives just got wiped of ZFS and are empty
1 drive is NIB(was RMA of drive 1 that failed last week

I know that you can use drives that already have data one them.... but will this data get moved around so all drives get are carrying equal burden or will it remain on the completely full drive with new data being moved to the empty drives? Drive 1 is a little too full for me, would consider moving some files around to equal things out if FLEXRAID isn't going to do that for me before creating parity.

I have about another 500GB on other random drives that I need to import once things are off an running.

Would like to use Cruise Control, but willing to follow any route for best performance... to include copying over MKVs to a fresh pool and later adding this drive as a new DRU after formatting.

All drives are WD Greens and all off MB SATA on a newer AMD board.

Any quick pointers... I just got my license for SP and RAID engine, have a fresh stable build of win7, and want to get some parity for these MKVs when I get off work today (would search for answers, but really busy today at work and didn't see them right away at lunch on forums, so not being lazy).

Thanks for any help or sage advice

EDIT:

So I was looking at how expert mode functions and I think I might be better initially sorting the MKVs by GENRE if I don't start from clean slate... so kids watching movie will read from 1 drive and my movies will from another, then the classics like "The notebook" will be read for my wife.... I realize from here on out, it will put them on whatever drive has the least amount of data..... But I already have the bulk of my collection, so not worried about future file locations..... Sound like a good idea for total read speed while streaming 20GB mkvs to multiple clients?

Also, do single files get split across multiple drives? Is there a way to disable that, thought I saw something about an option in expert mode.

Snapshot RAID / Questions about PPU Drive and Selection of Components
« on: October 10, 2011, 05:32:34 pm »
Will I see any performance benefit to using a faster PPU Drive.

Will have 4 2TB WD Green 5400's for DRU

Was either going to use another 5400, or a 7200 for PPU....  if there will be a performance boost for write operations using a faster drive.

Using Freenas right now, want to run under win7 for ease of U/I and better driver support.

Any sage advice or lessons learned would be much appreciated.

My build:
GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard w/ Intel PCI Gigabit NIC
Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) (might put in another 8gig down the road)

OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) to onboard SATA 6Gb/s for WIN7 OS
(4) Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive to onboard SATA 3Gb/s for DRUs
(1) TBD PPU Drive to onboard SATA 6Gb/s

All parts will be bought once I finalize my selections, so open to recommendations, other than the 4 Green drives that I already have. Will also use computer for occasional win7 tasks related to torrents, newgroup d/l, and stripping of video from bluray images to mkv(no conversion).

This NAS will serve 4+ computers for basic filesharing and will need to be able to stream 1080p DTS mkv to 2 computers simultaneously. My current build w/ just the 4 WD greens is able to support this using FreeNAS in ZFS (RAID-5) type config, at least as far as disk/network I/O is concerned....

So my only concern is really the benefit of using a faster PPU drive and the amount of memory I will need to support a stripped down win7 install and the Flexraid engine. Well, I guess my other concern would be execution of said build/install and learning how to recover a lost drive.... something I taught myself how to do in FreeNAS and now a year later would prob have to spend a day or two reading forum entries before I would even be able to attempt a recovery.... hoping that flexraid will be alittle more intuitive then FreeBSD CLI.
