I have reinstalled FlexRaid and now when i try and open the GUI from the desktop shortcut it just seems to hang. I have stopped and started the service but that doesnt appear to do anything. The main page of the GUI opens up but with the logo in the background but the login screen never appears. The icon on the tab and also the stop/refresh button constantly flashing like its trying to process something, but nothing happens.

Anyone help?

Great that you have things sorted out.

As far as updating to newer releases, do check the change logs to see if that particular update affects you.

Great tips. :)

You are correct in that the PPU does not have to be GPT and can be MBR regardless of the disk size.

A GPT PPU will work without issues if the DRUs and PPUs are properly partitioned.

Formatting or verifying the formatting of an existing disk
Transparent RAID supports disks with existing data on them. There is no data migration required. However, the proper partition alignment for the existing disks must be verified to conform.
In all cases:

  • The first partition on the disk must be at the 2048 sectors (1 MB) or greater offset
  • There must be at least 1 MB left free at the end of the disk (8 MB recommended)
  • Using the GPT patitioning format for all disks larger than 2TB (GPT and MBR are both fine for disks 2TB or under)
If any of your data disks does not conform to the above requirements, you will need to backup the data off that disk, erase and properly partition the disk as required above, and finally copy back the data on the disk.

I think I did not document this for Windows, since by default, it does the right thing when the GPT initialization is done with Windows 2008 or later.

Use diskpart and report on your partition details: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000004907
Basically:
- DISKPART
- LIST DISK
- Then for each disk [for each of your DRUs and PPUs] (you will SELECT DISK {number}), DETAIL DISK
- then, LIST PARTITION
- for each partition (you will SELECT PARTITION {number}), DETAIL PARTITION

Correct. Explicit Merge has been temporarily removed.
Too many non-advanced users were troubling themselves with it too much. It will be brought back later in FlexRAID One.

I believe you are experiencing a bug that was fixed in the latest release. This relates to how exclusions were being processed differently by different tasks in some cases.

What release are you on?

This should not be occurring with the latest release unless something is silently updating the backup GPT info of the PPU.

1. Clear your browser's cache and reload it.
2. Well, check that the broker service is running. Open up Task Manager and check that the NZFSB service is running. If not, resolve that or post about the specific issues that are keeping it from running. Note that uninstallation requires a reboot.

so are you telling me there is no solution for my trouble? this is server class hardware, what else can manage 26 drives?
in this case is all professional level hardware incapable?
It just means that I have no idea as to the source of your latest issues.  :-[
It is not going to work for you if you cannot complete the parity creation trouble free. This step is the baseline to everything to ensue.

The only thing I can think of is that you have to run the Verify task to ensure that the parity is proper.
Ultimately though, you need a good clean/trouble free run of the Parity creation process.

I would start with a test setup using just folders. That is, setup a Snapshot RAID in Expert Mode and use folders and DRUs and another folder as PPU.
In that test setup, I would also test the Restore process by deleting the content from one of the DRU and restoring.
After, you have done that, then go back to the main array and re-create the parity with the expectation that it completes without any issue. If this cannot be completed, then there is some incompatibility that requires deeper troubleshooting.

It does not look like RAID-F is for you if you are having that much problem with it. You gave it a good try, but if things aren't processing smoothly then it is not the solution for you... at least not on that system.

I had to reinstall Ubuntu on my server. I have also reinstalled FlexRAID but I need to reactivate it. I can't seem to find my activation key. Is there another way I can prove my purchase and activate it?
