Restart the Flexraid service?   If unable to start the service reinstall FR.

Storage Pooling / Re: Flexraid Storage Pool how to hide drives?
« on: May 24, 2017, 08:51:17 pm »
If anyone is still interested in a resolution for the above topic try the following:

Download HideCalc from here: http://hidecalc.co.uk/
*Run hidecalc as admin, check the drives you want to hide & create .adm

Open gpedit.msc. Highlight administrative templates under user configuration & right click. Select add\remove templates. Add the .adm you created with hidecalc.

Expand classic administrative templates (under administrative template). Select Hidecalc. Drill down until you see the 2 settings you just created. Open the hide drives setting and enable.

Now the actual drives are hidden in explorer, but can be accessed by entering the original drive letter in file explorer (example-J:\)-so now have the best of both worlds. If you totally want to stop any kind of access to these drives-open prevent access to these drives and enable.

General Discussion / Upgrade fails.
« on: February 23, 2016, 08:49:22 pm »
Have you tried deleting the flexraid folder in program files after uninstalling the old version?
I would also restart your computer before installing the new version.

You will probably need to recreate your RAID configuration and parity after upgrading to the new version.

Snapshot RAID / Still seeing individual drives...
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:38:22 pm »
If you dont see a pooled drive and still see the individual drives, i would say you missed something . If you see the pooled drive along w the individual drives, it may be as simple as removing the drive letters in comp mangement.

Here are some decent guides from the web:
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/33510-how-to-install-and-setup-flexraid-on-your-windows-storage-system/

http://tech-stew.com/post/2013/04/03/How-to-Install-and-Configure-FlexRAID-in-Windows.aspx

http://assassinhtpcblog.com/server-flexraid/

Also have you tried setting the individual drives up as mount points versus drive letters? May be worth it to research this on the forums or wikis. If i remember correctly there is a wiki on how to do this as well as a MSFT support doc.

I am sending this from tapatalk on a phone, so i could not easily read your prior adventures. :)

Provided there is nothing wrong with the drives themselves, delete current config & parity. Rebuild array & parity.

Snapshot RAID / Knowing how to setup PPU's
« on: February 07, 2016, 09:20:36 am »
That would work fine. How many PPU's you utilize are your decision (what are you comfortable with?).  For the past 3 years, i have had 5 drives w 1 ppu.

If the ppu dies, buy new drive & rebuild parity. If your drives are brand new-less chance of extenuating circumstances happening. I am thinking about adding another ppu just because of the my current ppu & dru's age (purchased at same time).

Looks like you are running in expert mode. I think that the enable server share ui option is meant only for cruise control (you can selectively share certain folders which you setup the same as in 2.0). Without this option enabled in cruise control (2.1 versions), i think the entire pool must be shared.

Other than that, it looks like you sharing in expert mode correctly. Have you checked the flexraid logs for potential clues?

PPU must be equal to or greater than your largest drive.

Snapshot RAID / Re: Failed Drive Restore Problem
« on: January 28, 2016, 08:07:36 pm »
If the drive is not totally dead: https://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm and then copy everything off. If it is dead, you only resort is to pay. It does not look like the wiki method is working in your situation.

Snapshot RAID / Re: Verify Failure without info
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:47:08 pm »
Best to take the array offline before before testing the drive :) Same thing if you ever want to defrag each drive-I wouldnt do it to the pool as a whole.

Snapshot RAID / Re: Possible drive failure - should i run chkdsk ?
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:43:52 pm »
If you are absolutely certain the the last update to the storage pool was good, then you can do a swap/restore-along the lines as the method you proposed. If not certain, assign the damaged drive a drive letter. Run chkdisk /f /r on it. If the chkdisk is successful, immediately copy the contents to the new drive and swap it. Then run an update which might take awhile-depends on whether the last update was accurate or screwed up.

In my opinion, the best method is to run the chkdsk on the disk at bedtime and and then begin copying the contents in the morning :). Should this method fail, then you will still have the option of trying the restore.

Thanks Brahim for adding the feature back in!

Snapshot RAID / Re: Very slow create speeds since v2.1 update
« on: September 30, 2015, 06:09:22 pm »
My creation and update speeds on 2.1 are slow also (only a third of the speed of 2.0). Since upgrading speed is in the 35-37 MB/s range. In 2.0 speed was close to 120 MB/s. Since 2.1 is new, I would rather sacrifice accuracy for speed initially. Can this be addressed as new versions of 2.1 are released?
