xliv,

Sorry for the delay. I wanted to wait until my new server was built so that I could test both Storage Pooling and Snapshot RAID. Thankfully, I got the parts on Friday and built it the same evening. I should have the Snapshot RAID/Preparing your drives guide(s) available tonight or tomorrow.

Hi - no problem.
But actually it's the Storage Pool guide that is missing, Snapshot is already online, see http://wiki.flexraid.com/2011/08/29/setting-up-your-snapshot-raid/
Thx

Sorry, I meant to say "Storage Pool". Do you want the section on preparing your drives (initializing, formatting, assigning an NTFS folder path) provided as a completely seperate howto, and then linked at the beginning?

Also, what's the significance of  "checking that your file dates are correct". Is that for general informational purposes, or something specific to FlexRAID?

Not sure yet - I think I'll try to keep everything together, and maybe later on extract that as a separate tip. So you can keep everything in 1 guide. Btw, I did it, and it sure is better...

That's actually a different topic, and can be left aside now. It's actually linked to Snapshot (I don't know why I put it there), happened to me and to a bunch of others: you get some files with modified dates in the future. Brahim may provide later on some "prepare scripts that will need to run before, to make sure the source data is correct before creating the RAID.

As someone who is relatively new to FlexRAID (and would benefit greatly from these tutorials) I just wanted to say thanks for stepping up guys. I look forward to seeing the new Storage Pool guide.

It's there! Still missing the part about sharing the pool across NW, jasonwc wrote it but I won't have time to add it to the Wiki today.

Ah I see it, thanks. Not sure how I missed it earlier.

You did not miss anything - it was not there before yesterday!

I think the new Cruise Control could use some tutorials.
Video tutorials are also welcome. :)

Do you still need a guide for setting up shares in FlexRAID GUI?

Yes, tutorials need a massive update now... I'll do that when I've got some time. About the network, jasonwc did something that I haven't got time yet to put in the wiki.

If we have tweaks or corrections for the stuff currently up on the wiki where and how can they be submitted?
Title: Re: FlexRAID WIKI Cleanup: call for articles!

You can submit them here or send me a PM. Any form OK - word doc, or just point the items that should be corrected.

In setting up storage pool merge mode settings the explanations could be reordered and renamed to reflect more accurately the GUI. Would just make a little more sense

then in the start you storage pool section it would be worth mentioning that the FlexRAID driver will be installed and a restart required. Brahim has updated the message presented in the GUI at this point so its not a problem but it would be good to know a restart is required in advance if installing on a server that is in use.

I signed up for an account as m0t0k0 and would be willing to help out. Never used wordpress before so you might get some pretty basic questions from me as I don't want to mess anything up.

@m0t0k0
I made you an author for now.
If you need to edit existing articles, you will need to let me or xliv know of the changes.
Thanks.

I will make a list of changes that I can see need to be made tonight if I get a chance.

Big thing I noticed was that the download link found here http://wiki.flexraid.com/2011/04/05/flexraid-lastest-download-links/ (http://wiki.flexraid.com/2011/04/05/flexraid-lastest-download-links/)

Takes you here http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/topic,17.0.html (http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/topic,17.0.html) the old Preview XII.
For new potential users this would not be a good introduction to FlexRAID.

It might be a good idea delete this thread to avoid confusion and direct people to the beta thread. This would prompt new users to make a forum account to get access booting the forum population in the process

Hi - I've updated the download page to link to the new Windows or Linux download threads. I also added a note on the Preview XII thread in this forum.
About the other updates: if you prefer, you can do that in a word doc and PM it to me.

Added a guide for setting up shares to the beginners guide section. It could do with some tweaking but I think it looks ok for my first attempt.

It has just been added to the top of the list and I cannot figure out how to move it down. So could some one do it for me please.

Also could one of you guys with some experience on wordpress tell me how you make articles look like they do when you create them. Maybe copy the html for one of the guides so I can look at it and compare to the site.

Do you use any plugins to help you or are there any good tutorials?

@m0t0k0
They are organized by dates, which is why yours (the latest) is on top.
I am not an expert with WP myself, but I have found that sometime if you want something to display exactly like you want, you have to use the HTML route (select the HTML tab instead of the Visual tab).
Title: Re: FlexRAID WIKI Cleanup: call for articles!
Post by: m0t0k0 on November 30, 2011, 04:17:50 pm

Ah I thought you would be able to move them around and reorder them as you wish.

Yea I found that out with the html! Its something I have no experience with but I have managed to make it look a little better.

I have plans to switch to a better wiki theme that allows for better organization.

Yeah, I tricked the dates when creating the other guides, so that they would show up in the correct order...

Ah, interesting.
How did you do that?

Also, what do you guys think of this theme? http://www.woothemes.com/2011/11/wikeasi/

I did it on yours, so it appears after the Storage Pool and before the RAID.

About the theme: yes, that one looks nice, but looks commercial. But I guess ultimately Brahim would need to pick the one that satisfies his requirements.

And by the way, good work on the guide, looks nice.

Thanks for moving the article for me.

Yea that theme looks clean and if its centred around creating a wiki page it should be well tailored to what your after
Title: Re: FlexRAID WIKI Cleanup: call for articles!
Post by: Brahim on December 01, 2011, 03:43:48 pm
@xliv
Yeah, it is commercial and $70, but might be well worth it.
The current theme does not support sub-categories, which makes thing a little harder to organize.
I am still looking around to see if there is anything better. If I don't find anything better, I'll buy it.

I hate the look of normal wikis including having to learn a new markup that is more often than not too specific to the particular wiki product.
I want a wiki without the wiki syndrome. :)

Outside of this forum, all of my sites are going to be based off Wordpress as it just rules.

Well, it took me some time, but the new "getting started" guide about Cruise Control is up:
http://wiki.flexraid.com/category/beginners-guides/

The older ones need just a little rework, and now are about the expert modes.

Next one is the restore guide, I've started working on it.
