Snapshot RAID / Re: Validate failure - Java Unknown Sources error
« on: January 15, 2014, 08:29:13 am »
Hi mate,

Thanks for the very informative reply!

I was quite busy with relatives visiting but finally got around to hijack the drives and follow your suggestion. All drives had SYSTEM with full permissions as expected however I have applied the security permissions again. Tonight I will run an update and tomorrow a validate and we'll see if I get a different result (fingers crossed!).

Will post the result back.

AW

Snapshot RAID / Validate failure - Java Unknown Sources error

Hi,

When running validate this week I had a few errors. I managed to fix all of them except the following which causes the operation to fail, no idea why though...

RAID-F Bug Reports / Hardware Error when running Update
« on: November 30, 2013, 11:03:50 am »
Hi guys,

I have lost access to the configuration of my snapshot RAID and recently managed to get it back. I have to assume that although the RAID was running, parity was not kept updated. When trying to run Update it fails with the following:
Quote
An exception has occurred!
See logs for full message.
Error message: Invalid state - Unexpected EOF on C:\FlexRAID-Managed-Pool\class1_0\{cc87b9b8-3ed4-11e2-970d-806e6f6e6963}\{some_file_path}
WARNING: Memory leak detected on native buffers! Leaks count = 1 out of 39

I have read of other similar issues with the EOF error (usually a hardware issue with one of the drives) but am not sure what the memory leak message refers to?
To try and circumvent (temporarily) the EOF error, I've set "Retry read errors" and "Ignore read errors" properties to true. However re-trying to run the Update still fails with the same error (on the same file). Why is the Ignore read errors not working? or is it failing because of the second memory leak error?

I can re-create parity but most likely will have the same read error again so not sure if worth it... also if I have an issue on the drive not sure deleting my parity at this stage is the best option!  :o

Other relevant info -
Looking at event viewer I found the following entry:
Quote
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.
Source: atapi
Event: 11

Also important to mention the drive that is having the issue is about to be replaced by a bigger drive. I just wanted the parity up to date before doing the swap.

Not sure what other info can help resolve the issue? I've attached some logs, let me know what else can help.

Thanks!

RAID-F Bug Reports / Re: Weird F-Raid UI behaviour + slow Performance
« on: November 30, 2013, 10:39:47 am »
OK after trying to figure this one for a while I managed to get my config back  :)

Turns out that Windows search did not search properly inside the system folders despite the setting being ticked... Manually looking at the folder specified in the wiki entry showed indeed a second db file. However replacing the new with the old still did not solve the issue. A 3rd party tool managed to find another instance of the db (!) with a date somewhere in between. Overwriting the new db with this one has solved the issue. I'm not sure what happened exactly to cause this but I suspect reinstalling the OS somewhere in the last 12 months probably have something to do with it. I have other issues now but I will open a new thread for them, just wanted to put the info out there for other people with a similar problem unable to locate duplicates of the config.db .

Should I perhaps open a ticket in the bug tracking system?

Hey Brahim,

Thanks I was just going through the Wiki and saw it.... When searching for "FlexRAID-Config.db" on C:\ it only comes back with the one on the root of the drive.

Just wanted to add that the web UI does not look like it "knows" about the FlexRAID configuration running... I can't see any information on it, only the option to Add New Configuration.

Like I said in the title - weird behaviour!

Hi there,

I have actually been having those issues for a long time now but only now I was able to make time to deal with them.

When I have setup FlexRAID I went through every relevant article in the Wiki and did everything I thought was relevant. This includes setting up Scheduled tasks for Update, Validate and Verify (I think I did all three) as well as setup an email alert. Not sure how long after, but it (emails reporting scheduled tasks are successful) was working for a while and then stopped. Now the machine including the pooled drives have been working flawlessly so I did not do anything about it for a while. Now when I go into the F-Raid web utility, the email config is empty and there are no scheduled tasks. When trying to add the tasks again, the Schedule for dropdown does not give me any options... (see screenshot - http://screencast.com/t/N1edFysSp2C)

The other issue I have been having is that the drive have been really slow. I haven't done any testing but it is very prounouncable to the point of folders taking a while to show content in Windows etc. I was wondering what can I do to troubleshoot this problem?

The logs can be accessed via -
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24903031/FlexRAID/FlexRAID.rar

Interestingly the db config file has a last updated date of 7-Jan-2013... (although I re-entered the email details today)

Thanks for the help! Let me know if there is any other information that can help.

Hi,

Please have a look at a full description of the error as described in a post made on the SabNZB+ forum:
http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12809&p=77474#p77474

I have found another similar thread pointing at a similar issue:
http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php?topic=732.0

The walkaround of d/l to a local drive is not applicable in my case as all the drives except the system drive (small SSD) are pooled via FlexRAID.

Seems that for whatever reason the storage pool does not handle direct downloading very well. In the default FlexRAID log I have not found any errors (can PM upon request).

Thanks for the help
